Most of this title is free-to-play, and almost everything is accessible without having to spend any money. That isn’t to say that the game doesn’t have it’s pay-gates. The first game in this franchise was so well-received and addicting that some players even took to the forums to write out posts detailing their addictions, and how they best prevented themselves from going overboard in spending money on the in-game currency.

The story of the franchise is written by Josh Fine, the writer for the incredible animated series The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The heroes find themselves facing off against the villain Thanos as he prepares to destroy the universe for what most likely is the millionth time. The game will have ties to the original Marvel: Avengers Alliance, but Bill Roseman, Marvel Games’ creative director, stated in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that:

Characters in the newer game have an expanded repertoire of abilities to select, with the average hero having nine abilities to choose from, but only three slots to take into battle. This will allow for more customization than the previous installment, and allow for more diversity in how a player chooses to arrange their superhero team. Also included are team up abilities and traits between heroes who are known associates, such as The Heroes for Hire: Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
